Spicy Shortbread Nuggets


  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon aniseed
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1/2 cup butter
In a large bowl stir together the flour, brown sugar, and spices. Using a pastry blender, cut in the butter until the mixture resembles find crumbs. Form mixture into a ball and knead until smooth.

Divide dough into 12 portions. On a lightly floured surface, roll each portion of dough into a 10-inch rope. Cut ropes into 1/2-inch pieces. Place pieces 1/2 inches apart onto ungreased baking pans.

Bake in a 325°oven for 12 to 15 minutes or until the edges are firm and bottoms are lightly browned. Remove cookies and cool on paper towels.

Makes about 240.
