- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon aniseed
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/8 teaspoon ground cardamom
- 1/2 cup butter
In a large bowl stir together the flour, brown sugar, and spices. Using a pastry blender, cut in the butter until the mixture resembles find crumbs. Form mixture into a ball and knead until smooth. Divide dough into 12 portions. On a lightly floured surface, roll each portion of dough into a 10-inch rope. Cut ropes into 1/2-inch pieces. Place pieces 1/2 inches apart onto ungreased baking pans.
Bake in a 325°oven for 12 to 15 minutes or until the edges are firm and bottoms are lightly browned. Remove cookies and cool on paper towels.
